TYPE : Residential
AGE : 2025
SCOPE: Residential Renovation
A 2,034 sq. ft. residence in Kolkata, spread across two levels, taken up for a full-scale renovation and interior transformation. The home offered generous volumes, large openings and a structurally sound framework yet it lacked identity, warmth and a cohesive spatial intent. While the bones were strong, the experience of the space felt unresolved and underdeveloped
At the time of takeover, the house felt expansive yet incomplete. Stark white walls and minimal furniture often pushed to the periphery created a sense of emptiness rather than openness. The interiors lacked layering, personality and visual engagement.
The staircase, finished in standard grey granite blended into the background. It was purely functional with no material or design articulation to contribute to the overall aesthetic of the home. Despite these, the home had a strong underlying advantage abundant natural light. Large openings allowed daylight to flood the interiors, offering a powerful foundation to build a more expressive and layered environment.
The vision was to transform the residence into a home that feels traditional, warm, and deeply rooted, while remaining aligned with contemporary functionality and lifestyle needs.
The approach was guided by:
Mrida was not a project driven by surface-level additions. It was about building character, depth and cohesion into a space that initially lacked all three.
Spatial Reconfiguration
The planning of both floors was carefully revisited to improve circulation, usability and spatial clarity. Instead of working around the existing layout, selective demolition allowed for a more resolved configuration.
Walls were dismantled and reconstructed where necessary, ensuring that each space felt intentional rather than leftover.
(Wall to be dismantled)
A significant intervention took place in the kitchen. The existing common wall between the kitchen and living area was removed and reintroduced along a more strategic alignment connecting seamlessly with an existing passage opening. This shift not only improved functionality but also strengthened the spatial relationship between key areas of the home.
One of the most impactful decisions was the complete replacement of flooring across both the ground and first floors
Rather than treating rooms as isolated units, a continuous flooring language was introduced throughout the home. This created a seamless visual flow, allowing spaces to transition effortlessly into one another while reinforcing a sense of unity.
The new flooring also played a key role in elevating the overall material palette acting as a neutral yet rich base upon which other elements could layer.
The staircase was finished in standard grey granite heavy, monotonous and visually disconnected from the rest of the home. It served its function but lacked any design intent or material warmth.
The staircase was completely reimagined as a central feature within the home:
Carbonized bamboo wood flooring was introduced on the treads, bringing in warmth and texture 6” x 6” patterned tiles were used on the risers, adding a handcrafted, detailed character Edges were refined with subtle beading details, enhancing craftsmanship A polished finish elevated the overall aesthetic to a more premium level This transformation was further enriched by a terracotta-textured wall, which added depth and an earthy tonal balance
A glass railing paired with a wooden handrail introduced visual lightness, ensuring the staircase remained open and connected to the surrounding space. What was once a purely transitional element is now a defining visual anchor within the home.
The existing kitchen was dull, boxy, and lacked character. Accessed through a small opening from the entrance passage, it felt restrictive and functionally disconnected.
The Process:
The space was completely reworked by dismantling the existing storage and removing the wall between the kitchen and living area. The original passage entry was closed, allowing for a more intuitive layout and improved circulation.
An open kitchen was introduced with a breakfast counter that connects seamlessly to the living space, detailed with Moroccan-patterned tiles for added warmth and character. Rebuilt entirely from scratch, the kitchen features pastel green cabinetry, white 15mm tiles and PU finished shutters creating a clean, functional and visually cohesive space The result is a space that feels open, efficient, and visually cohesive balancing everyday practicality with a refined design language.
Before
The washrooms were basic and utilitarian, with exposed plumbing, standard fittings, and little attention to spatial planning or detailing.
After
Each washroom was rebuilt from the ground up:
We selected tiles carefully for both walls and floors and installed them with precision to ensure alignment and finish quality.
Premium sanitary fittings with soft-closing mechanisms further elevated the user experience. The result is a series of spaces that feel clean, refined and cohesive, seamlessly aligned with the overall design language of the home.
The Mrida project involved extensive coordination across civil and interior scopes including dismantling existing structures, reconfiguring layouts, waterproofing, plumbing upgrades, complete flooring replacement and precision finishing.
Every stage was closely supervised to ensure that design intent translated seamlessly into execution while we handled the complexities on-site, allowing the client to experience the process without the usual stress.

CeeBee Design Studio — where renovation becomes renewal.
A multi-level residence designed to evolve with the lifestyle of its inhabitants, Jyotsana was envisioned as a space that balances openness with intimacy. The home offered strong architectural elements — double-height volumes, a central staircase, and ample natural light — but lacked a cohesive narrative that could tie these elements together. and precision finishing.
The goal was not just to redesign, but to layer meaning, warmth, and identity into every corner of the home.
Before intervention, the space felt visually disconnected. While individual elements existed, there was no strong design language binding them together. Surfaces felt plain, transitions lacked emphasis, and key areas like the staircase and living space functioned without contributing to the overall aesthetic.
However, the home had one undeniable strength — beautiful natural light and spatial openness, which became the foundation for transformation.
Great renovations are like quiet superpowers — you may not notice every detail, but you’ll feel the ease in how your day flows.
What was once a plain, underwhelming space has been transformed into a warm and inviting home. By enhancing the double-height volume and introducing rich textures, earthy tones, and thoughtful lighting, the space now feels vibrant and full of character.
Carefully planned furniture and subtle design details bring comfort, functionality, and elegance together—turning a simple living room into a refined, welcoming environment.
This transformation reflects the true essence of renovation—creating a space that feels personal, balanced, and alive
The staircase, once simple and underdefined, has been transformed into a striking design feature. A gallery wall, enhanced lighting, and refined finishes bring warmth and visual interest to the space. With the addition of sleek railings and thoughtfully styled elements, the staircase now feels elegant, functional, and seamlessly integrated into the home’s overall design.
From a plain and unused corner, the foyer has been transformed into a warm and welcoming entry experience. Rich textures, earthy tones, and a statement wooden feature wall bring depth and character to the space. Thoughtfully styled with subtle lighting, greenery, and functional seating, the foyer now creates a strong first impression—setting the tone for the home with elegance and warmth.
This renovation brings together two essential elements of the home—knowledge and devotion—through a seamless design approach. The custom-designed bookshelf, with its warm lighting and structured layout, creates a space for learning, reflection, and display. Adjacent to it, the temple stands as a serene focal point, crafted with intricate detailing and soft illumination that enhances its spiritual presence. The balance between these two zones reflects a lifestyle rooted in both intellect and mindfulness. Together, they transform the space into more than just a functional area—creating a harmonious environment that feels calm, purposeful, and deeply personal, embodying the true essence of a well-designed home.
This bedroom is designed to balance rest, work, and everyday living in one cohesive space. The deep blue accent wall paired with warm wooden finishes creates a calm and inviting atmosphere. A full-height wardrobe ensures ample storage while maintaining a clean, seamless look. The compact study corner by the window adds functionality without overwhelming the space, making it ideal for both productivity and relaxation. Overall, the design reflects a modern, minimal approach—simple, warm, and purposefully crafted.

A Legacy Reimagined Through Contemporary Interior Transformation
A landmark rooted in history, identity, and cultural significance, the prestigious Peerless Heritage Building carried with it decades of architectural character and emotional value. The objective of this renovation was never to erase the past, but to respectfully reinterpret it — transforming the interior into a refined, experiential environment while preserving the emotional essence and heritage identity of the space.
Inspired by Kolkata’s timeless architectural language, the redesign blends heritage detailing with contemporary functionality, creating interiors that feel rooted, warm, immersive, and visually memorable. The project focused on creating an environment that celebrates legacy while supporting the evolving needs of a modern corporate and hospitality-oriented workspace.
The design intervention introduced layered textures, handcrafted details, curated lighting, and immersive storytelling through every zone of the building — from reception lounges and collaborative discussion pods to gallery-inspired waiting areas and recreational spaces. The result is an interior experience that balances nostalgia with sophistication.

The Peerless Heritage Building possessed strong architectural value and emotional significance, but the interiors lacked cohesion, spatial hierarchy, and experiential engagement. Several spaces felt visually disconnected and functionally underutilized.
The interiors were dominated by standard finishes and lacked a unified design language capable of reflecting the institution’s legacy and stature. While the structure carried immense historical weight, the interior environment did not communicate the same richness, depth, or identity.
Large circulation zones existed without experiential anchors. Waiting areas lacked warmth and interaction. Discussion spaces were functionally basic, and the overall environment needed stronger visual storytelling to create a memorable spatial experience for visitors and employees alike.
However, the building offered one powerful advantage — generous spatial volumes and an existing heritage character that could be thoughtfully reinterpreted into a contemporary experiential environment.
The core vision behind the renovation was to transform the building into a space that feels:
The design language was inspired by:
The project was approached not merely as an interior upgrade, but as a narrative driven transformation where every corner contributes to the larger identity of the Peerless brand and heritage.
The interior planning was strategically reorganized to improve circulation, visual connectivity, and functional efficiency. Rather than treating individual areas separately, the design established a cohesive journey across the entire interior environment.
Key interventions included:
The result is an interior that feels intentional, balanced, and immersive rather than fragmented.
One of the most defining features of the project is the grand heritage-inspired waiting lounge.
The space was designed to evoke a sense of timeless sophistication through:
The arches act as strong visual anchors and create depth within the waiting area, while the sculptures introduce a gallery-like character that elevates the overall experience.
Furniture selection focused on clean contemporary forms upholstered in warm neutral tones, allowing the architectural detailing to remain the focal point. Decorative pendant lighting and textured ceiling installations further enrich the visual experience, introducing softness, warmth, and intimacy into the large-volume space.
The discussion cabins were conceptualized as transparent yet private collaborative zones.
Frameless glass partitions were introduced to maintain openness and visual continuity while still allowing acoustic separation for meetings and discussions.
Inside the cabins, the design language continues through:
The use of glass ensures that natural and artificial light flows seamlessly across the space, preventing visual heaviness and maintaining openness throughout the floorplate.
Lighting played a transformative role in defining the mood and identity of the interiors.
Instead of relying solely on functional illumination, the lighting strategy was layered to create depth, drama, and warmth.
The ceiling designs combine:
Each ceiling was treated as a design element rather than a secondary surface. The waiting lounges feature dramatic heritage-inspired chandeliers and custom hanging installations, while the recreational areas use geometric ceiling frameworks combined with directional lighting for a more contemporary expression. Warm lighting temperatures were carefully selected to enhance material richness and create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the building.
The material selection was intentionally curated to establish warmth, authenticity, and timelessness. The palette includes:
Used extensively across wall panelling, ceiling elements, furniture, and detailing to introduce warmth and richness.
Inspired by Bengal’s cultural and architectural heritage, earthy tones were incorporated through flooring inserts, wall accents, and decorative bands.
Frameless glass partitions maintain visual openness and create a contemporary contrast against traditional architectural forms.
Subtle textured finishes add depth and tactile quality without overwhelming the space.
Traditional linear detailing, handcrafted patterns, and cultural graphics were integrated across walls and architectural elements to reinforce the heritage narrative.
A major aspect of the project was integrating the legacy and identity of the institution into the interior environment itself. This was achieved through:
Rather than using generic décor, the interiors were designed to communicate memory, legacy, and identity.
Every space contributes to a larger storytelling experience rooted in history and cultural pride.
The renovation also focused on creating engaging interaction spaces for users and visitors.Dedicated recreation areas including the billiards zone were designed with a contemporary yet warm aesthetic language. These spaces feature:
The recreation spaces create balance within the overall interior by introducing moments of relaxation and social engagement.
The reception area was designed as a strong visual identity point for the building. The feature wall integrates:
The reception environment establishes the tone of the entire interior — elegant, rooted, and memorable.Brand identity was subtly integrated throughout the interiors rather than appearing as isolated signage.
Furniture across the project was carefully selected to complement the architectural language rather than overpower it.The styling approach focused on:
Indoor plants, sculptures, decorative ceramics, and subtle styling accents were strategically introduced to soften the interiors and add life to the environment.
The renovation involved extensive coordination across multiple disciplines including:
Every stage was executed with close supervision to ensure that the design vision translated accurately into the final built environment. Particular attention was given to:
The transformed Peerless Heritage Building now stands as a refined blend of legacy and modernity.
The interiors successfully preserve the emotional and cultural essence of the institution while introducing a fresh experiential identity aligned with contemporary needs. The spaces today feel:
From heritage-inspired lounges and collaborative cabins to recreational zones and cultural walls, every corner contributes to a larger narrative of transformation. The project demonstrates how thoughtful interior renovation can respectfully preserve heritage while creating environments that feel contemporary, engaging, and deeply rooted in identity.
This renovation is not merely about redesigning interiors — it is about reimagining legacy through space, materiality, light, and experience.
